Inspired by the song “Heaven is a Place on Earth” by Belinda Carlisle, this artwork explores the beauty found in everyday life. It started out with me being on the balcony, observing people hanging out their clothes to dry and realizing how this can become an interesting space for a display and expression. Again, there was a natural proclivity to encourage a conversation between the work and the viewer. On a parallel note, it also questions the idea of “heaven”, like the song, as a separate afterlife. A beautiful, livable world can only be created right here on Earth.
